Ring Ring went the phone at 9.00am 8th July 2008 it was the bank, "Er pardon madame it is possible for you to put more money in your account" came the voice on the other end of the phone (I summised that it must be the bank) No i cannot i have just put a large amount into the account3 days ago.
"We have not enough money to pay your cheque you need to put more money."
It transpired that EDf had taken a payment for a bill that we hadn't received yet and completely wiped out our account of all funds including all of our wedding present money ( in error may I add). I was just about to find out what Customer (I dont) Care was like in France ( as I now fondly refer to them.)
2 months 2 weeks and 4 days, 17 emails, 42 phone calls and not one single appology later we got a refund, you can imagine how we had been living for that time having no money for shopping, bills or fuel. This was where our self sufficiency started to pay off with a little help from friends and the good old barter system.
We were now able to carry on working on the house to get it into a situation where it would be possible to open the doors as a B&B, chambres d'hotes.
